The P-282 Smash is a newly developed anti-ship, ship launched ballistic missile by the Pakistan Navy.[1] It is designed to hit targets with high precision, both at sea and on land, with a range exceeding 350 kilometers.[2] The missile employs advanced multi-spectral active terminal guidance and is capable of high-speed maneuvers and hypersonic flight.[2] Its high-explosive warhead and ability to be launched from various naval platforms make it a formidable weapon system.[3] The P-282 Smash's hypersonic flight capability makes it difficult to intercept, enhancing Pakistan's naval capabilities and deterrence posture in the region. The missile is similar to the Chinese CM-401 anti-ship ballistic missile.[4]
The P-282 Smash first launched on November 6, 2024, when the Pakistan Navy successfully test-fired the missile. Launched from a naval platform, most likely from a Zulfiquar-class frigate, the missile demonstrated its impressive range and accuracy by striking a designated target with pinpoint precision. This successful test marked a significant milestone for Pakistan's defense industry and its naval capabilities.[5]
