Rules for classification: 1) Points; 2) Goal difference; 3) Goals scored.
(D) Disqualified; (R) Relegated
Notes:
  1. ^ Arminia Bielefeld had their license revoked on 15 April 1972 due to their role in the 1971 match fixing scandal and were relegated, though they played all their remaining matches. All of Bielefeld's results were annulled, therefore only counting for their opponents. Without the annulment, they would have still finished in 18th place with 19 points, with a record of 6 wins, 7 draws and 21 losses, along with −34 goal difference (41 goals for and 75 goals against).[1]
