Personal Info

- AKA Brent Ostrum, RB Ostrum or QDE-can (my sig has varied over time but they are all 'me')
- My personal/professional website has lots of info about my work, who I am, etc.
- Education:
- Honours Bachelor of Arts degree with Highest Honours (summa cum laude) in Psychology, Carleton University, class of 1981
- Followed by a couple of years in the Master of Arts program (sadly, incomplete)
- Completed a Certificate of Advanced Studies in "Statistics and Evaluation of Forensic Evidence" from l'Université de Lausanne (Lausanne, Switzerland), Sept 2011. This was a very interesting course delivered online over a period of 18 months. Wonderful instructors and participants.
- Professional forensic document examiner
- Now work for the Canada Border Services Agency having joined their laboratory in 2001 after 16 years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Regina, Saskatchewan. So I've been a employee of the Canadian Federal government since: December 2, 1985 .

- Serving as Chairman of the Document Section in the Canadian Society of Forensic Science.
- Professional certification obtained from the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners, Inc. (note: ABFDE certified examiners are referred to as 'Diplomates' of the organization).
- Former member of the Executive Council for Skill-Task Testing Training and Assessment (St2ar) - Archived.
- Active or former member of various technical groups including ASTM International (Subcommittee E30.02), the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) and the International Graphonomics Society.

- Very interested in digital imaging, image processing, statistics, statistical inference and evidence evaluation (particularly with respect to scientific evidence using a Bayesian approach to interpretation as it pertains, ultimately, to expert testimony in a court of law, although it is really a likelihood-ist approach)
- Interested in Chito-ryu karate-do for >35 years (and counting). However, no longer practising.
- Work in Ottawa, Ontario but don't live there
- Have a lot of interests but haven't had much time to contribute to wikipedia
