Plot summary
[edit]{{spoiler}}
Concerned by an increasing attraction for Spike, Buffy requests help from her Watcher, Rupert Giles for help. She also contacts Angel, hoping to discover why it is that Spike is able to cause her pain despite a Government chip that should prevent him harming all humans. Meanwhile, the Council of Watchers in England, discover some unsettling things about Buffy and seek to call a new Slayer, leaving Quentin Travers the chance to indulge the same experiments that the first Watchers (Shadow Men) had devised. However the new Slayer is not quite how the Council anticipated. Giles gets involved in a search for old Watcher diaries. They have no idea of the truths and the dangers that lurk close.
