Pierre Chanut (February 22, 1601 – July 3, 1662) was a French state counsellor. He was charged with numerous embassies and resided from 1645 to 1649 at the royal Swedish court. He held a written communication with Queen Christina of Sweden to whom he presented the French philosopher René Descartes[1]. He died in Livry-sur-Seine on July 3 1662. His work Mémoires et Négociations (Memoirs and Negotiations) were published posthumously.
