It has recently come out that one of the principal members of Wikipedia, Essjay aka Ryan Jordan has been dragging Wikipedia, all of it's content, validity and the work of its tens of thousands of editors through the mud with his lies. If you haven't caught up yet Essjay, an Administrator, Beauracrat, Checkuser, Oversight, Mediator and employee of the wikipedia foundation lied about credentials he had. He went around claiming to be a Ph.D. in Theology and a professor in a private university (all lies, he's a 24 year old from Kentucky). The fact that, being an employee of a very small company, his lies had to have been noticed before could have been made worse by having Jimbo Wales founder and head demi-God of Wikipedia endorse this behaivior and the promote him after he was exposed as the liar and fake that he is.

This might very well be the last straw for wikipedia and Jimbo Wales in many people's books (my own included) and Lanrry Sanger, co-founder of the wikipedia, has already said as much. Witness the implosion:
