Nathan Sapala Werep (born 15th June, 1992), is a strong advocate for Seventh-day Adventist tertiary student ministry in both public and private schools in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Sapala has been a member of the Papua New Guinea Adventist Students Association (most commonly known as PNGATSA) since 2005.[1]
Early Life
[edit]Sapala was born in Titip Aid Post in Kandep district in Enga Province where he hails from. He grew up speaking local language, Engan. Growing up in his village at his early childhood, he learned more of the custom and traditions and ways of doing different things in his home district. Sapala started his education at a nearby community school to his village until he transferred to Porgera in Lagaip-Porgera District to do his year five at Paiam Primary School, just near the giant Porgera Gold Mine.
Identity
[edit]Sapala is a mix parentage of Enga and Hela province in Papua New Guinea. Lived in Porgera for half a decade, he had a very close tie with a family from Finchaffer District in Morobe Province who played a important role in assist raising him during his Primary and High School years. It is special to note that name Sapala comes from West New Britain province, Kimbe, and he is misinterpreted as some from Eask Sepik Province where the former Prime Minister, Michael Somare hails from. For this reason, he has always had an interest and a pride in his diverse background and culture as a Papua New Guinean having all these connections.
Belief
[edit]Sapala believes that it is good to let God be his witness in everything he does. He always considered God as his everlasting Father and Jesus Christ as his mentor, example, leader, and at work place his Boss. He believes that when people are dishonest to God, it is very easy to be dishonest to people because people do not see what is being done but God does.[2]
Education
[edit]Sapala graduated from the University of Papua New Guinea with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Geography. He also has a certificate in Comprehensive Hazard and Risk Management (CHaRM) from the same University.[3]
Professional life
[edit]Sapala works as an officer with the climate Change and Development Authority under the Government of Papua New Guinea.[4] Before joining the public sector, he worked with the UNREDD project in PNG managed by Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).
