User:MetsBot/Commons tagging
Wondering why your image was marked as "Meeting the criteria for deletion" or perhaps "Not meeting the criteria for deletion"?
This is part of a process to move images to Wikimedia Commons, a central repository of free content media.
MetsBot marks images when they have been tagged by the {{NowCommons}} template, indicating that they are now available on Commons. If the image is now on Commons with the same name as the one here, on the English Wikipedia, when the image is deleted you and everyone else will notice no difference in the article, and the only real differences are that now anyone from any Wikimedia project can access the image automatically, and the image description page can only be edited centrally at Commons. If the image name here is different than the image name on Commons, all pages which use the image here must be updated to use the new name on Commons.
As far as "Meeting the criteria for deletion", all images must meet a few criteria to be deleted from this English Wikipedia (when they're deleted, the Commons image description and image will show up in its place)
- The entry on commons actually exists
- The entry has proper source and copyright information on the commons page
- The file names are the same (if not, remember to redirect all image links)
- The file was properly uploaded (preserving GFDL required history of revisions)
- The file was properly added to an article or category in commons
- The file has been marked with {{NowCommons}} for at least one week. Waiting one week is not necessary if it was the uploader who moved the image and marked it.
If any of these criteria are not met, or if MetsBot is unsure if they have been met, it will be mentioned in the template that is added to the page.
Most importantly, if MetsBot marks your image as "Meeting the criteria for deletion", you don't need to do anything, and you have nothing to worry about. If it marks your image as "Possibly not meeting the criteria for deletion", you should try to fix its concerns. If it says the image "may not" have proper source and/or license information in Commons, and you believe it does, don't worry, just leave it alone.
Finally, if the bot makes a mistake, or if you have any questions or comments for me, don't hesitate to ask.
