The image might meet Wikipedia’s fair use policy. Please review the policy and make a judgment. We should be using as few fair use images as possible. The image itself should be
- as small as possible (usually not wider than 300 pixels),
- discussed directly in the article (for a good example, see The Persistence of Memory),
- critically important to the reader’s understanding of the article,
- not replaceable by a free image that could be created or found and
- not a screenshot used just to show what a person looks like (such as a screen capture from Terminator 2 to illustrate Arnold Schwarzenegger).
The image page must include a fair use rationale. You can use the following template, filling in all of the fields:
{{Fair use rationale |Description= Title and brief description of the image. |Source= Exact work from which this image is taken, e. g. the author, title, year of publication and edition of a book, the URL of a website or the name and year of release of a film. |Portion= How much of the work are we using, such as one frame from a film or an entire photograph at reduced resolution. |Purpose= The role this image plays in the article where it is used. |ResolutionReduced= Was the resolution reduced? E. g. yes, reduced from 720×480 DVD screenshot to 180×120. |Replaceability= Reason why this image cannot ever be replaced by a free image. |other_information= Optional, additional remarks, e. g.: Permission was granted to Wikipedia for using this image. }}
