The FIS Speed Skiing World Cup is the top international circuit of speed skiing competitions, inaugurated in 2002 that takes place annually from January to April. The events are organized by the International Ski Federation. Currently, the season is held over seven to eight stages, some of which take place in the same location within a few days. The World Cup awards the men and female titles, in turn divided into the categories of Speed Downhill (SDH), reserved for athletes who compete in alpine ski gear and Speed One (S1), where specific materials for speed skiing are adopted.

Since 2018 the SDH category has been renamed S2 and no more points and World Cup trophies or the world title has been be awarded for it.

In each stage the world cup competition takes place over three days, one for training and two for racing runs. No more than three runs can be performed per day for each athlete and as soon as a world record is reached or exceeded, the competition stops at the end of the respective run. [2]

Points System

[edit]

Up until the 2011 season, different World Cup point systems were used for men and women. Since 2012, the point grid of the Speed Skiing World Cup has been used analogously.
