Doctor Who: Origins

[edit]

Hi, Martin. The documentary in question is a special feature found on the Doctor Who: The Beginning DVD boxed set, which you can probably find at Amazon.com. --khaosworks (talkcontribs) 16:08, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The awful screencap has been supplanted by a better one of the iconic tape splicing one.

I took the names of the so-called standard repetory from the Chinese wikipedia page.

I cannot identify anyone of the three tunes you put up on the webpage. China is large. The Chinese lady playing in a hotel could very well be playing music of the area where she lived. These tend to be folksongs that are familiar to people of that region. However, standard repetory usually refers to composed music (usually written after the Cultural revolution), when Chinese music could relive again, but with influence from the west. This is different from the folksongs passed down generation by generation. One can say that the standard repetory tends to be more technical, perhaps using folksong as material, but usually western development techniques and to introduce the technical aspect of the instrument. However, folk songs tend to be more lyrical and melodic.

Still, I'm glad you enjoyed that lady's performance. Hope this helps. DesolateReality (talk) 10:15, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
