Christine Lucy Latimer (aka - Christine Latimer) (born January 24, 1980) is a Canadian experimental filmmaker and photographer.
History
[edit]Christine Lucy Latimer graduated from the Ontario College of Art & Design, currently OCAD University in 2002, with a double major in integrated media and photography. Her film and photographic practice has since been based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Art Works
[edit]Latimer's experimental film practice uses interconnected analog techniques such as direct animation, hand-processing, video/film hybridity and found footage to comment on the structural history of moving images.[1] [2]
Her photographic practice combines the use of analog techniques and photographic detritus to re-tool and reconfigure the comprehensive space of the image. She often works exclusively with found slides and film negatives, re-printing them in an analog darkroom. She also frequently uses alternative process chemistries of her own concocting.
Screenings and Exhibitions
[edit]Latimer's works have been exhibited in public institutions such as The Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto's Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival,[3], The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Pleasuredome Film and Video Collective.[4] [5] [6], Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography,[7], and MALBA Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires.
Her films have screened in over 125 film festivals, including The Images Festival (Toronto, Canada),[8] [9] [10] Impakt Festival (Utrecht, Netherlands), Antimatter Film and Video Festival (Victoria, Canada), San Francisco Cinematheque (San Francisco, USA), EXiS (Seoul, South Korea),[11], L'Alternativa Festival de Cinema Independent de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain), Toronto's Scotiabank Nuit Blanche and RIDM (Montreal, Canada).
Latimer's films have also been used as live multimedia components for large-scale music festivals, such as The Sziget Festival, (Budapest, Hungary), M'era Luna Festival (Hildesheim, Germany) and Beacons (Skipton, England)[12].
Recognition
[edit]Latimer has been awarded grants from the Canada Council[13] and Ontario Arts Council supporting the exhibition of her work. She has also received commissions from Oddball Film+Video (San Francisco, USA),
