MobileDemand is a provider of rugged Tablet PC mobile computer systems headquartered in Hiawatha, Iowa with manufacturing facilities in Taiwan.[1][2] The products are built for use by mobile workers in harsh environments to survive falls, extreme temperatures and exposure to liquids.[2][3] The company specializes in complete mobile automation systems by integrating data collection technologies including barcode scanning, numeric keypad, credit card reader, color photography, GPS and touch screen in its PC tablets.[3]
History
[edit]MobileDemand was founded in 2003 by Matt Miller.[1] At that time, the company specialized in manufacturing portable, rugged Tablet PCs with laser-based bar code scanning for the wholesale beer sector.[4][5] With the introduction of smaller Rugged Tablet PC systems and accessories, MobileDemand expanded to a wide variety of vertical markets that employ a mobile workforce including hospitality, manufacturing, military, public safety, retail, transportation and logistics, and warehousing.[2][5]
MobileDemand opens office in Taiwan to focus on building and maintaining the Asian supply chain under the direction of Executive Director Wen Shih. Shih was previously a product manager of memory modules and display components with Apple. More recently, he served with General Dynamics as director of Asian operations. The office will have two other employees.[6]
Duke University uses MobileDemand Rugged Tablet PC to measure correlation between blood oxygen levels and altitude sickness. Research was conducted on Mount Everest in Nepal, South Asia. [7]
In May 2013, the Corridor Business Journal recognized MobileDemand as one of the top 25 fastest growing companies in the Eastern Iowa corridor, ranking #7. The annual Fastest Growing Companies awards identifies and honors the region’s most dynamic companies that have made significant contributions to the strength of the local economy. MobileDemand was recognized as the 2nd fastest growing company at the 2012 awards, 6th fastest at the 2011 awards and 4th fastest at the 2008 awards. [8]
