)Hey there, I'm ThatOneWolf, or Wolf. I love editing wikis to make them better! You can also find me here at the Minecraft Wiki, with the same username. I have autopatrol rights there, but unlike here, individual edits are automatically patrolled instead of just new pages.
About me
[edit]I'm just a random Canadian guy who plays Minecraft a lot, and so therefore I researched the Minecraft Wiki an awful lot. I decided to join the wiki, and now I'm a pretty active contributor there. I followed Wikipedia links through my Minecraft Wiki research and also just when I needed to read about something. I found myself in the recent changes a lot, and on October 30, 2023, I started reverting the vandalism I found there, but still as an IP. The next day, November 1, I decided to make this account so I could do more things that I couldn't do as an IP, such as have my own pages, have my own preferences, and more things, especially once I became autoconfirmed, then extended confirmed.
My thoughts on IP contributions
[edit]For me, IPs are total wild cards. Some IPs make really constructive contributions, or at least they try to, and we should assume good faith with them, as they are learning. However, other IPs like to just vandalize, because they want to see what will happen. Unfortunately, this is the case with most IP editors. I'm not the kind of person who will just go out reverting every kind of IP edit I see, because that will most likely not end well, especially if it happens to be a bunch of good IP editors. At the same time, I do see the risk of letting every IP edit go completely unreviewed. To compromise between both of these risks, I review every IP edit I can, and then from there it's simple. If the edit is constructive, leave it. If the edit looks like it is obvious that the IP's intent is to vandalize, then revert and maybe warn with level 2. If the IP made an unconstructive edit, but it looks like they were at least trying, I'd still revert, but with a good descriptive edit summary. If the same IP makes small but unconstructive edits, then I'd give them a level 1 warning, which is more like a "Welcome to Wikipedia, we are happy to have you here, but you have been making unconstructive edits. Please look into these help pages for information." And then there is major intentional vandalism, which would, depending on exactly how severe it is, probably result in something like only warning.
What am I mainly doing here?
[edit]I mainly go Recent Changes Patrolling, with a custom color code to detect possible problematic or unconstructive edits. I also help editors who want to do a major edit to a page, but it is too large for them to do themself. I am also in the Guild of Copy Editors.
Find vandals but can't stop them for whatever reason?
[edit]This section contains material that is kept because it is considered humorous. While I do try to stop vandals, this section is just to lift spirits, give you a good laugh, and make you have a better day. |
Don't worry. I gotcha covered. I'll just do this to them. (I'm the one in black; background people are Wikipedian bystanders, and one is you. The one in beige is the vandal.)
