[edit]

Isaac Wright was born February 23, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Isaac was adopted by Todd and Heather Wright at birth. The majority of Wright's years were spent in Harrisburg, North Carolina and attended Pitts School Road Elementary, Cabarrus Charter Academy and Hickory Ridge Middle School.

In his early years, Wright would play for FAIRPORT SOCCER CLUB.

Wright was intraduced to running in 6th grade where he would run cross country for his middle school team Cabarrus Charter Academy.

High school career

[edit]

Wright attended Hickory ridge High School and ran varsity track and cross country all four years of his high school career. Wright broke the indoor 500m,[4] 4x800[5] and outdoor 4x800[6] school records. Wright also anchored his 4x400m team to second all time for his school.[7]

AAU track career

[edit]

Isaac Wright ran for Charlotte Panthers Track Club[8] for 7 years. In Wright's first year competing he ran the 3000m and 1500m. Wright placed 2nd in both the 1500m and 3000m at AAU NC Regional Qualifier[9] in the 12 y/o age group. He also placed 5th in the 800m[10] qualifying him in all 3 events for the 2017 AAU Junior Olympics. Wright also ran at the 2017 AAU Club Championships where he ran his season best of 5:20.53 in the 1500m[11].

Wright continued to run middle distance qualifying once again for the 2018 AAU Junior Olympics placing 1st in the 3000m and 2nd in both the 1500m and 800m in the 2018 AAU Regional 25 Qualifier. Again, Wright ran his season best in the 1500m at the 2018 AAU Club Championships running a season best of 5:00.77[12] In 2019, wright also teamed up with his friends to run the 4x400 at the 2019 AAU Junior Olympics.[13] While Wright had qualified for the Junior Olympics every year this would be the first year he ran at it as this year would be hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina, only an hour and a half from his home town of Harrisburg, North Carolina. There, Isaac would run the 3000m, 1500m, 800m, and 4x400m.

Later on that year Isaac would run his life time best 3000m indoors at JDL fast track with a time of 10:16.28.[14]

Wright did not run in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In 2021 wright dropped the 3000m and only ran the 1500m a few times. Wrights focus was now on the 800m. wright also started to run the 400 more consistently but ran the 800m at regionals where he won with a 2:08.47[15] (see video here).[16] In 2022 wright shifted to a pure 4-8 runner however Wright decided to run the 1500 and 800 at regionals breaking his 3 year old 1500m personal best[17] and also running a personal best in the 8[18] qualifying for Junior olympics in both.

In Wright's senior year of High School and final year of AAU track with the Charlotte Panthers, he would run the 400m, 800m and now the 200m. Wright would run a total of 3 200s this season dropping over a second in time. Wright ran PRs in both the 200m and 800m on June 3rd at Johnson C. Smith University breaking 2 in the 800[19] and running 22.56 in the 200m.[20] Wright would later run his 400m SB of 50.25[21] at the 2023 Jim Law Invitational at UNCC. Wright, set to compete in the 2023 USATF national Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon at Hayward Field was cut short with a hamstring tear that ended his season and AAU track career.
