An EELV Lunar architecture is a proposed architecture for future manned spaceflights conducted as part of Project Constellation by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration. It advocates the use of existing or modified Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicles (EELVs) instead of the Shuttle Derived Launch Vehicles (SDLVs) which were adopted following the Exploration Systems Architecture Study.

History

[edit]

EELVs were originally proposed as the launch system for the Crew Exploration Vehicle. In 2005 the Exploration Systems Architecture Study report stated that using SDLVs would result in "significant advantages with respect to cost, schedule, safety, and reliability".[1]
