Introduction

[edit]

Plants and People is a project that was started by partner libraries from the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries. The goal of the project is to create and enhance articles related to botany and botanical topics.

The original project coordinators have hosted Wikipedia editathons related to creating and enhancing biographical articles for botanists and other botanical workers and articles related to native plant species in the United States of America.

At present, the focus of this project is mostly biographical articles, but hopefully in the future the coordinators will be able to take part in editing projects involving bibliographic work, plant taxonomy, and species using Wikidata and other Wiki sister projects.

Plants And People has been envisioned as a sort of hub for certain botanical Wikipedia editing, and as such the organizers hope to include past events in this space that have had some form of botanical editing, especially editing related to botanists and women in science.
