[edit]- Samuel Morgan Smith (1832-1886) was an African-American actor who moved to England to escape racism.
- Alton Kumalo (1939-2013) was a Rhodesian-born playwright, actor and director who came to Britain in 1961.
- Roland Rees / Roland David Gwyn Rees (1941-2015) was a Welsh theatre director.[1]
- Frank Cousins (actor) (born 1940) was a Jamaican-British actor, and the founder of the Dark and Light Theatre Company, the first black-led theatre company to receive Arts Council in the UK.
- Dennis Duerden (-2007) was a British educational administrator, museum curator, radio and film producer and Africanist.[2]
- The Transcription Centre was a centre funded by the Congress for Cultural Freedom, which recorded interviews with African and Caribbean writers, artists and intellectuals between 1962 tand 1977. Under its director Dennis Duerden it "became something of an informal club for all blacks [sic] artists visiting London and a power house for many of their activities".[3]
