Following is a list of Billboard Music Award wins for pop/R&B icon Whitney Houston . Her huge success been recognized on the Billboard Music Awards, based on the Billboard year-end charts . Since her debut in 1985, Houston has won a total 31 awards on the year-end chart and at the awards ceremonies―its inaugural ceremony was held in 1990. In 1986, she became the first female artist ever to earn the Top Pop Album of the Year award (later Billboard 200 Album of the Year) for Whitney Houston and the first black female artist to achieve the number one in the Top Pop Artist of the Year category. Houston swept 11 awards including Billboard 200 Album of the Year for The Bodyguard Soundtrack and Hot 100 Single of the Year for "I Will Always Love You " at the 4th ceremony in 1993, setting a record for the most BMA won in a single year. In the Billboard history, she is the first and only female artist to win Billboard 200 album of the Year two times, and the only artist to earn the year-end number one album and single in both pop and R&B categories, simultaneously. In May 2012, Houston was honored posthumously with the Billboard Millennium Award.
