Dordan Manufacturing is an engineering-based designer and manufacture of custom thermoformed packaging like plastic clamshells, blisters, trays and components. Dordan participated in the industry-initiated dialogue that resulted in the inclusion of thermoformed packaging in the post consumer recycling infrastructure in North America. Dordan's published three reports on post consumer PET thermoform recycling. The Truth about Blister & Clamshell Recycling in America with Suggestions for the Industry in 2010[1], The State of Postconsumer PET Thermoform Recycling: Past, Present and Future in 2013 [2] and Postconsumer PET Thermoformed Containers: Recyclable vs. Recycled in 2015 [3]. These efforts helped changed the destination of post consumer PET thermoformed packaging from landfilled in 2009, to collected for recycling in 2013, to recycled in 2015. Today a handful of reclaimers reprocess post consumer PET thermoformed packaging into second and third generation materials and products. Dordan experimented with bio-based, biodegradable, and compostable materials for thermoforming in its Bio Resin Show N Tell, educating industry on the performance and cost indicators of these non-traditional resins [4]. Dordan continues to be a proponent for alternatives to fossil-fuel based plastic packaging [5].
