Template talk:Verify spelling
Garbled tooltip message when an optional message is specified
[edit]When a tooltip message is specified, the tooltip displays a garbled message. For example, this:
Foobar{{Verify spelling|This spelling is non-standard.}}
is rendered as:
- Foobar[spelling?]
which displays a tooltip that says: "Please check to spelling/rendering of This spelling is non-standard.".
Also, the default message is incomplete: "Please check to spelling/rendering of":
Foobar{{Verify spelling}}
- Foobar[spelling?]
A better default message would be one adapted from {{clarify}}:
- "The text near this tag may need to be checked for spelling."

pre-text and post-text parameters are incorrect and weird.
[edit]{{verify spelling|reason=reason|date=August 2024|pre-text=before|post-text=after}}
renders as:
[before spelling? after]
Since the |reason=
is displayed in a tooltip, |pre-text=
and |post-text=
are not displayed before and after |reason=
, as the documentation claims, but they are displayed before and after "spelling?".
I am not sure why anyone would want to put text there.

Newcomer task: copyedit
[edit]It looks like this template adds articles to "newcomer task: copyedit", which can lead to a lot of attempts to fix otherwise totally fine articles and missing the "verify spelling" tag. I think this template ought not to do that. Reconrabbit 22:29, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
