I originally posted this in User talk:Sl; but I think this is an important point for discussion. An English translation of the Chinese text is useful for English language readers who do not read Chinese, mainly because the site en.wikipedia is specifically in the English language.

You removed the English translation of the tab, but I think this should be kept in. The site is the en.wikipedia.org, and I believe it would be helpful for English language readers to know what the script in Chinese means. If you leave it out, it becomes just a mystery for non-readers of Chinese text, and on an English language site, that is exclusionary. Dylanwhs 09:44, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm afraid I find that a blatantly discrimatory and exclusionary stance, and very foolish in the extreme. You would write Chinese characters with no explanation of what it means on an English language website so that readers who don't read Chinese are left wondering what the characters meant? They come here for information, yet without the translation, you are deliberately setting a barrier for them. What use is it if I cannot read Chinese and are seeking someone who speaks Hakka? Just because French language tag does not include the English translation, does not hinder non-alphabetic scripts to include one.

You also provided a reading in some unknown romanisation, wouldn't it be better to remove that in favour of a phoneticisation such as IPA where all the sound values are known? For non-readers of the romanisation or IPA, they still have no clue as to what the tag means. This is clearly lunacy. Dylanwhs 14:42, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
