Is there anyway that this box can have a tick box to make it go away, like the contents table. Cerntainly on my laptop with a small screen it produces a very crowded start to the article often conflicting with the first image. Billlion 15:24, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to see it go away too. Chris Fynn (talk) 16:49, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tournadre Simplified

[edit]

I think this template should replace the THDL romanisation line with a line for Tournadre Simplified romanisation. THDL is basically just a regularised approximation of the conventional spellings and it doesn't give clear pronunciation info, whereas Tournadre is more informative. There's really no reason to single THDL out apart from other conventional spellings.—Nat Krause(Talk!·What have I done?) 07:43, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I figured out how to add optional rows to this table, which will allow us to transition to Tournadre instead of THDL. Either or both or neither can now be used in any given article. See Karmapa for an example.—Nat Krause(Talk!·What have I done?) 23:13, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was totally blocked for twelve days, so I couldn't react earlier.
What is “Tournadre Simplified”? I thought there was the Tournadre transcription (used in the English version of his textbook) and the simplified version of that system, which is the THDL Simplified Phonetic Transcription, also devised by Tournadre.
Maybe it makes sense to add a line for the “original” Tounadre transcription, but “Tournadre Simplified” doesn't make sense to me. —Babelfisch 06:20, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I guess you're right. The section of Tournadre's book where he lays out his sytem is called "A Simplified System for Transcribing Tibetan Words" (I imagine he means "simplified" relative to the Wylie spelling), but he doesn't seem to actually call it "Tournadre Simpliefied Romanisation". We should probably follow THDL in referring to it as "Tournadre Phonetic Transcription".—Nat Krause(Talk!·What have I done?) 04:48, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thoughts required

[edit]

I would like to draw people's attention to discussion on Template talk:Infobox Buddhist biography.

This information box is being used on various lama article, except those of Dalai lamas, and it's usage is variable and three boxes now exist which could be used. I've made a suggestion there which I think will fix this and expand that template's usage. Thanks.--Alf melmac 21:47, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Purpose of this Template?

[edit]

Do we really need Chinese names in English Wikipedia articles on things like Tibetan Buddhism? Suggest removing it from many pages where it has been thoughtlessly applied. Presumably those who are interested in the Chinese can find them in Chinese Wikipedia. This infobox might make some sense on articles about contemporary Tibet or places in Tibet you might want to find on a Chinese map - but otherwise there is really no need. Next someone will make a Tibetan-Hindi Infobox - it would make just as much sense here. Chris Fynn (talk) 16:46, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
