Capitalization
[edit]I'm not sure where the best place is for this proposal, but hopefully this is as good a place as any (if not, let me know). I understand that there's a convention for template names and invocations to be case-insensitive, but in this case it seems like the logical way to structure this would be to have {{Their}}
point to the {{ucfirst:{{Their}}}}
invocation and {{their}}
point to the lowercase version. It would make the template much more convenient to use and make the corresponding code more readable. Srey Srostalk 23:00, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
- @SreySros: Page titles, including those in the Template namespace, ignore the capitalization of the first character and default to uppercase. You can see more at m:Help:Page name#Case-sensitivity. An alternative place for technical discussions like this where the talk page may not have many participants (such as this page) is WP:VPT. —Locke Cole • t • c 07:45, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, that makes sense. Thank you. Srey Srostalk 17:02, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Template:Their has been listed at Templates for discussion (nomination), but it was protected, so it could not be tagged. Please add:
{{subst:tfm|help=off|1=His or her}}
{{subst:tfm|help=off|1=His/her}}
to the top of the page to complete the nomination. Thank you. TartarTorte 00:48, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- Done by User:Paine Ellsworth but I have removed one of the boxes which I assume is okay — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:13, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- To editor TartarTorte: any reason why 2 notices are needed that point to the same discussion? P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 11:45, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, was asleep. It seems that I used twinkle the wrong way to do a merge nomination. Self-trout TartarTorte 12:24, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, too. We both were asleep. And thanks to Martin for waking us! P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'r there 12:46, 22 September 2022 (UTC)

Alternative to "themself?"
[edit]It seems that since the creation of Template:They, the reflexive gender-neutral form is {{themself}}
, with {{themselves}}
never being an option. Template:Gender gives the option between {{gender|Username|themself}}
and {{gender|Username|themselves}}
. At risk of seeming nitpicky, is there any way to create an option for {{themselves}}
, as this is the way many (most?) people use the reflexive gender-neutral term in the singular. AnandaBliss (talk) 14:32, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- You can create {{themselves}} yourself. Nardog (talk) 16:07, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Nardog, I'm not sure how to create a template like that. Could you point me to some resources? Thanks! AnandaBliss (talk) 17:06, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
