Template:String count → Template:Page count – More accurate name * Pppery * has returned 15:02, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
- Question. @Pppery: The documentation says "This template counts the number of strings on the specified page." It counts strings, not pages, so I don't understand your rationale. wbm1058 (talk) 17:59, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- I don't feel that "string count" is an accurate name for this template, as it doesn't work purely with strings; the name "string count" feels like it should refer to something like Module:Text count to me, not a template that also gets the content of a page. * Pppery * has returned 19:00, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Pppery: The documentation says it searches for a string or Lua pattern. It can search with a Lua pattern or plain text. Text string just redirects to String (computer science). That's just "a sequence of characters". Text may be too narrow a term if it implies just "plain text" and excludes a Lua pattern, or if it implies A–Z and excludes numbers and special characters. I still don't see any problem. You can't expect a template name to always clearly describe what it specifically does, if we could then there would be no need for the documentation subpages. wbm1058 (talk) 19:31, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
