Purpose

[edit]

This template exists for Towns and Villages only. Not for non-specific geographical areas or estates.

Usage

[edit]

Insert the following code into your page:

{{stockton}}

Proposition

[edit]

I propose this template is expanded to cover suburbs and other such areas. A large proportion of Stockton is made up of suburbs such as Hardwick and Ingleby Barwick and I see no reason why it should not be made easier for both editors and users to reach pages concerning other areas in the Stockton area.--Super Ted 10:11, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that this would cause the template to become so cluttered with information that it is impossible to use. There are hundreds of things that I considered to go in this (i.e the hamlet of Low Leven), but decided that to keep it consise it was best to keep this template strictly to towns and villages. The template is already bigger than I would have liked with just towns and villages, because as I added them I found there were more than I first thought. Sounds fair, but I suspect this is just a question of formatting. I just feel that it is unacceptable that large settlements are not linked to. When I get chance I will look at reformatting the template so it is easier to include more information. I've seen plenty of large templates and will have a look round for inspiration! Any help you could give populating the template once I've carried out the changes will be much appreciated.--Super Ted 11:44, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeh, good call. I was actually thinking about that last night. Perhaps we could have headings for Towns, Villages, Hamlets, Large Estates/Settlements etc...
Feel free to try some stuff out. Andrew Duffell 12:10, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can I suggest we try out stuff on this page: Template:Stockton/new
Sounds fine to me. Will take a look around other pages when I get chance and make some changes. We'll also have to make sure any changes we make doesn't mess up the formatting of existing pages.

Thanks for the help! --Super Ted 07:13, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ingleby Barwick

[edit]

I believe that Talk:Ingleby_Barwick#Is_IB_a_town_or_estate.3F explains why it should not be added to the towns section of this template. The text on this talk page also explains too. Tonystock 17:39, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added IB. It's just daft not to include it. To accommodate everyone's views I've modified the descriptor to "Towns and settlements". 86.27.67.86 19:50, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Doing something like that means that we end up adding Norton, and every other settlement in the Tees Valley. This template doesn't exist for this purpose, and is supposed to be consise.
Feel free to create a seperate estate template for the stockton area.
Andrew Duffell 00:09, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Rubbish. Norton is already listed in the template as a village. IB is a major element of Stockton on Tees borough, so if there's a template for Stockton then common sense dicates it should include IB. The template will be the first port of call for many people. To exclude IB could lead to confusion. I'm re-instating it.
Sorry, Norton was a bad example, as it is actually a village. Please do not revert back to including IB, but start work on Template:Stockton/new which we can use to replace the current template. Perhaps a seperate section for other significant locations?
I also think if this template is going to be for the borough of stockton we should expand to include other significant articles.
