Store author in Wikidata and use in the SKBL template

[edit]

@Ipigott: I did a small test see GITHUB were I extracted the authors name. If we can get a CC-0 license on the metadata from SKBL then we can have the Authorsname in Wikidata and if no author argument is added in the template we use the aurthor name in Wikidata is my idea

  1. Step nr one is that we just add the author as a text string e.g.
    1. Example article UlrikaEleonoradydrottning has in metadata json
      1. firstname: "Sari"
      2. lastname: "Nauman"
        1. I guess then we create a authorname string Nauman, Sari
  2. Many of the authors has an Wikipedia article on Swedish Wikipedia --> then we could add the author as a Wikilink e.g.
    1. Lisbeth Larsson (Q4961115) is same as articleauthor/Larsson, Lisbeth

Any thoughts good or bad? - Salgo60 (talk) 18:15, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Salgo60:: If you think this is worthwhile, please go ahead. We certainly need to include the author's name if we cite the SKBL article in Further reading.--Ipigott (talk) 19:27, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ipigott: next week I will speak on SKBLs editorial meeting about what we are doing and also how they can better deliver structured data so we in Wikidata can use it better. I think your concerns about that many articles are not relevant for en:Wikipedia is of interest but I also feel that Wikipedia should be an encyclopedia that explains the history of women. My thoughts are
  • is the approach SKBL has not optimal when focus on articles about women and in those articles explains the process for a women in 1700 that her daughters daughter is the first that can be a doctor.... see Elna Hansson -> Johanna Maria Andersson -> Hedda Andersson were I guess Hedda Andersson is the only person relevant enough for en:Wikipedia
All thoughts are welcome I did a small video about SKBL <-> Wikidata in Swedish how I hope SKBL deliver better Linked data - Salgo60 (talk) 09:46, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Salgo60: I certainly do not think the applicability of SKBL articles to the EN wiki should be of any concern. The biographies are first and foremost a useful resource for Swedes and those interested in Sweden. The criteria for inclusion in Wikipedia are quite different. Let them continue along the same lines and Wikipedia editors can then decide which ones are suitable for inclusion in different language versions of the encyclopaedia. On the other hand, I support your efforts in connection with easier inclusion of Wikidata entries which use SKBL as a source. If plans for the extension of Wikidata to cover more extensive information on the entries go ahead, it might be possible to draw on the SKBL biographies in more detail.--Ipigott (talk) 09:55, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
FYI @Ipigott:: I was part of the editorial meeting today at SKBL and presented Wikidata and it looks we move direction CC0 and can have author etc in Wikidata --> we can get it automatically in the Template:SKBL my presentation from today Salgo60 (talk) 08:01, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
