Parameter to hide the edit notice template

[edit]

There should be a new boolean parameter created in this template that will remove the {{Refideas editnotice}} if desired. Per that template's documentation: If you do not want this template to display in an editnotice, remove the refideas template from the associated talk page. this should not be the case. It shouldn't be an either/or situation. Editors should have the ability to not have the edit notice while still keeping ref ideas on the talk page. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:28, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is now a working solution, User:Favre1fan93, albeit not the one you suggested. I've updated the documentation to a) remove the language you so rightly object to, b) explain how to remove the edit notice while keeping the suggested refideas: please see Template:Refideas#Turning off the edit notice. Why the limit?

[edit]

I’m confused on why there is a limit at all to how many items can be listed in the template. Zanahary (talk) 18:20, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Zanahary: Have you looked at the page source? Each extra slot adds to the complexity and slows it down. We can't make it infinite: there must be a cutoff somewhere. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:00, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply! I don’t know where to find the code, though, could you tell me how to access it? Zanahary (talk) 23:49, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I linked it in my previous post. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 00:28, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

catching flak for using Refideas

[edit]

So, another user is saying putting "ref ideas" at the top below template violates talk page guidelines "ref clutter". That's how I see it used in many articles. Special:Diff/1257205662. I didn't know how to do 1= 2= 3= at the time, but, was that user correct to tell me I can't use it? Graywalls (talk) 21:42, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Graywalls: There seem to be several things going on in that edit, but here we should consider only those things directly pertaining to Template:Refideas.
If you have four suggestions for ref sources, you shouldn't need to use {{refideas}} four times. It only needs to be used once, unless you have more than 21 refs to list. Being a banner, it goes before the first heading, per WP:TALKORDER item 13. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:35, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that. I was not familiar with doing multiple refs using one template at the time, although that was something that could have been fixed by reformatting. Do you see any issues other than that? Graywalls (talk) 22:40, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Several, but not within the scope of this talk page. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:12, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So, if I had formatted as
, then put it at the very top, it would have been fine as far as listing out sources I intended to use/suggested? Graywalls (talk) 23:18, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is its purpose. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:25, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
