[edit]Would this redirect be appropriate for this template: United States Steel → U.S. Steel? djr13 (talk) 03:01, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, that is definitely appropriate use of this rcat. Good catch! and Happy New Year, djr13! – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 16:51, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- Here is a little tip that might help you in the future, djr13:
- When you come across a "naked" redirect like the one you caught above, if you tag it with the {{This is a redirect}} template, or its alias {{Redr}} you can get help that way, too. For example, say you make the edit page look like this:
#REDIRECT [[U.S. Steel]] {{Redr}}
- or, if you feel bolder, then like this:
#REDIRECT [[U.S. Steel]] {{Redr||to initialism}}
- (Note the two "pipes" after "Redr", which just means "an empty first parameter".) Either way, the redirect will be sorted to a category called Miscellaneous redirects. Some editors including myself monitor that category just in case other editors need help to categorize redirects. So feel free to use that in the future when you're not quite sure. Joys! – Paine 17:26, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! As tempting as it may be though, I think I'll have to keep this to a minimum. I'm rarely absolutely sure I've tagged a redirect with all/only appropriate tags, and if I add this whenever I'm not totally sure, I would just be replacing one backlog with another. :) djr13 (talk) 17:37, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
- I understand your feelings; let me reassure you that several editors watch that misc. category, so there is rarely if ever a backlog. But you do as you wish, my friend. – Paine 18:57, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
