Is this now standard wikipedia policy
[edit]I guess I didn't see the policy written anywhere but it looks like we have bots that do this now. Is it pretty much a wikipedia policy/guideline to add the following: "Category:Redirects from titles with diacritics" if the redirect page has diacritics and redirects to the main page with no diacritics? And vice versa use "Category:Redirects from titles without diacritics" if the redirect page has no diacritics but the main page it redirects to uses diacritics? I see it used by editors and administrators though I'm not sure why we really need it. Fyunck(click) (talk) 17:45, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
- Wow. No response since August. So sorry about that. Fyunck(click), you'll find the Wikipedia Guideline (superceded by no policy I know of) at WP:RCAT. You'll also find useful info (if you haven't already) at the project. The answer is yes, the Rcats, such as {{R from diacritics}}, are used to categorize redirects, and there are still a lot of redirects that need to be categorized. Please see:

Redirects
[edit]Two points:
- All that are needed are one or two shortcuts unless more existing shortcuts are found. The procedure is, if one wants to include new shortcuts, they should first be created and only then they are added to the documentation page. Otherwise, they will show as red links and may confuse other contributors.
- There are good reasons to show all existing redirects in the Redirects section. They are then available for use by anyone who may want to use them. Also, if an administrator does not want so many redirects and wants to delete some of them, they have a list to use for that work. – PAINE ELLSWORTH CLIMAX! 19:22, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
List of... text
[edit]For the edit request to update the diacritics rcats and categories, please see this talk page. The text has been generalized to cover all possibilities and especially to include minor planet redirects. Paine u/c 13:19, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Please add {{R from modification}} to the extensive rcat list as a non-mainspace {{R from plural}}. J947 (c), at 04:28, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- J947, are you asking to have that template listed within Wikipedia:Template messages/Redirect pages and in Template:R template index? I see {{R from modification}} in both of those lists. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:54, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95: No; apologies for not being clear. I am asking that {{R from modification}} be added to Template:R from diacritics. This would make the content of Template:R from diacritics become: #REDIRECT [[Template:R from diacritic]]
{{Redirect category shell|
{{R from move}}
{{R to redirect template}}
{{R from template shortcut}}
{{R from modification}}
}}
—J947 (c), at 05:07, 7 February 2020 (UTC)- Done Thanks for the clear and concise clarification. I was very confused, but you sorted me out nicely. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:39, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

What if the redirect is not to the same page with diacritics?
[edit]William Omar Landron Rivera redirects to Don Omar What should be used for that redirect? Don't say this should be used. ErceÇamurOfficial (talk) 14:44, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
