Right-alignment parameter needed

[edit]

I'ld like to propose that an optional right-align parameter be added to this template. Presently, some articles using this template have lengthy Infoboxes and are so loaded with images that this template appears directly below a section header on the left side. This is undesirable, per MOS:IMAGES. As a workaround, I've been using <div style="float: right;"> in such situations to place the template on a right-alignment, but the proposed parameter would be more user-friendly and give better results, methinks. Looks fine to me, it moves the box farther to the right margin than using <div style="float: right;"> and would be easier for editors to use. I'll drop a note to User talk:Kingturtle to let him know about it, since no one else at the Baseball Project seems to be monitoring this page. JGHowestalk - 02:18, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I made the default left aligned so that it would be backward compatible, otherwise I would have defaulted it to the right. Let me know when it is approved and I will make it live and update the documentation. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 12:35, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do approve of this proposal. If I had my druthers, it would take it a step further and have it be align right only. The align left more often than not causes a mess. Kingturtle (talk) 19:06, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but you would have to go through each article and move the template. Babe Ruth would be busted from the start. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 20:16, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. If you ever want it to default align right, it is an easy change. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 20:20, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ed, The template doc says it "defaults to right" — shouldn't that be left per above and the template's revised syntax? JGHowestalk - 03:10, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Got me. Ah, cut & paste. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 09:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The default margin has been was bugging me since I did this, so I figured out how to fix it. When right aligned, the box now has a 0 left margin and a 1em right margin, when left aligned it has a 0 right margin and a 1em left margin. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 20:53, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the 1em margin renders better. JGHowestalk - 23:07, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Margin needed

[edit]

Could someone perhaps add a margin to the template of 10 pixels or so? I've seen many examples of this template in use in articles were there is text running directly up against the template. If you look at images in use in articles, there is a margin around the image to prevent text from touching it. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talkcontributions) 04:27, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

period in Template coding

[edit]

WP:CAPFRAG states "Most captions are not complete sentences, but merely sentence fragments, which should not end with a period." Why does this template render the caption ending with a period? Shown here as

{{{Year}}}.
