Some editors might prefer to include a blank line between top-of-page templates and the first line of actual text in order to improve readability in the edit box; for example:

In the case of {{Lowercase}}, doing so would result in extra whitespace appearing at the top of the article. Following some experimentation, I believe that this may be fixed by enclosing the transcluded content in a <span style="visibility:hidden"> tag. Thus, I propose that the source of the template be changed from:

Just noticed that this problem has already been raised in /Archive 1#extra space, referring to this revision of an article. Issue was circumvented by removing the blank line from the article. However, the problem also appears (uncorrected) in chgrp, lsattr, and probably several others. Performing the fix I suggested above would eliminate the issue from all pages. lowercase title(?)

Strange, the article writes >>Simply add the tag {{lowercase title}} at the top of a page<<

but the eBay example only has: >>{{pp-move-indef}}{{lowercase}}<<

, i.e. no " title" part.

{{lowercase}} redirects to {{lowercase title}}, so there is no difference between the two. -- intgr [talk] 18:04, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

   "Off-topic" probably is a sufficient reason for this question having gone unanswered. AFAIK the answer is trivial, and the question can be seen as raising the further question "How can a server-owner who needs to solicit the answer to that 1st question use their own wiki in a way that is worthy of the effort of giving free advice?"
   (I don't intend to go any further off-topic; this response is motivated by a desire to keep as clear as possible the distinction between those who know their priorities keeping them straight, versus not giving a damn about you.)

Incompatibility with Template:Italic title

Note that if both this template and the italic title template are used on one page, such as at Www.tism.wanker.com, the title is italicised but does not begin with a lowercase letter. I suspect it will take a fair bit of time and effort to figure out why this occurs; does anyone know why and how to correct it? GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 16:55, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure, but it seems as though it depends which one is further down the page. Putting {{lowercase}} below {{italic title}} makes it lower case, but vice versa makes it italic, overriding the lower case one. I've changed that page by using DISPLAYTITLE, but would be great if someone could fix it? If not, we could create a template at Template:Lowercase italic title instead? Ah, I see the templates just used DISPLAYTITLE, I figured it would be a bit more complicated that that but I should have guessed otherwise; I've done something rather more complicated on my own user pages anyway.    According to the wonderful tool the link provides, it's down to 45. I feel gratitude at being able to understand what i had to do about the Rdr that was labelled NCr and reads now, on the heading at the top of its own page (it's easy for other pages' mentions of it to be individually coded nCr -- or piped nCr, if that seems somehow helpful). In consideration of that, i'm going to fix some of the 45. (Unless i mention the subject here again, my gratitude is insufficient to motivate me to more than half of them.) I also imagine it needs to be done periodically to cover new instances ... ah, yes: all but 2 are from July.

   I've worked, i think, on 22 instances (based on the list i just assembled by picking titles out from my recent contribs) tho i'm not sure all 22 were of which probably only nCr came from other than the list, and the list which is down to zero. I imagine more will show up. I'm going to go thru all i can identify, partly to clean up early ones where i now realize i didn't need to rely on {{DISPLAYNAME}} directly. I'm also going to review them all, and list in this section the one or a few where the best i could do was to force the single remaining error message to the end of the article page.

Broken on xx (album)?

Why doesn't this template work on xx (album)? The title it stylized as "Xx (album)". +mt 20:44, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

It's exactly the same issue as above: Template:Infobox album makes title italic and MediaWiki looks at the last DISPLAYTITLE used on the page. Remove "lowercase" template and insert explicit {{DISPLAYTITLE:''xx (album)''}} somewhere after "Template:Infobox album". — AlexSm 21:29, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

How it works?

How this thing works? There is an issue with the Turkish one. When the address is "İPhone" it works (title becomes "iPhone"). But when the address is "IPhone" then the title doesn't become "iPhone". (The Turkish letters: İi Iı. The English letters: Ii) tr:IPhone, tr:Şablon:küçük harf --Kirov Airship (talk) 13:02, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

The template seems to work fine on most pages, the issue seems to be with the letter "i": for example, try to create a page tr:iii with latin "i" and the title in URL will become "%C4%B0ii"; someone (maybe you) filed a bug today at mediazilla:28040; this could be somehow related to mediazilla:4430. — AlexSm 14:28, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

That is normal because the uppercase of i is İ (in Turkish alphabet). Why you is it as %C4%B0 is because (I think) your browser does not know the corresponding letter of %C4%B0 (which is İ). I see it as İ on Firefox 4.0b13pre. But the product name iPhone is not a Turkish word and MediaWiki needs to handle it as English word. --Kirov Airship (talk) 15:13, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Yes, some browsers can display pretty URLs (although the "proper" one is still with "%C4%B0"). Anyway, there is nothing wrong with the "Lowercase title" template, the issue is with magic word DISPLAYTITLE itself and "i" / "İ" letters. I'm not sure the devs will be able to fix this, since DISPLAYTITLE should only produce a title that links to exactly the same page and tr:iPhone and tr:IPhone are different pages. — AlexSm 15:37, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Non-latin Alphabets

Can the documentation be updated in some way to show that the lowercase template also works/is needed for lowercase in other alphabets such as Greek (I figure that Hebrew and Arabic have no lower case, does Cyrllic also need the template)?

Template doesn't work for titles with Italics

See xALBUMx as an example. This template does not work for this article title. There's an interference with whatever makes album titles to have Italic titles and thus cancels out the effects for making the first letter of the title of the article lowercase. • GunMetal Angel 16:14, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Using syntax to make the SECOND word in a title lowercase

I have been trying to use the {{DISPLAYNAME}} syntax to make the second word in this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disconnected_Youth lowercase. The article title should be "Disconnected youth" ... and the {{lowercase title}} syntax only makes the first letter of the first word lowercase. Thank you for your help/advice/bug fix. <includeonly>{{lowercase title}}</includeonly> doesn't work

Template:R from Java package name is a template for which the including pages should all start with lowercase letters, but the template's own title shouldn't. But even though it includes the lowercase-title template inside a <includeonly> tag, the lowercase title ends up also applying to the template itself. How can we fix this? categories for subjects

Do we have any categories that keep track of pages which do this?

I notice that xxxHolic does it manually via DISPLAYTITLE because it is also italicized, so I can't simply check where the lowercase title template is used since it is not always used when lowercasing is done.

Where could Template:Hidden category be put? Trying to think of a name. Category:Articles with a decapitalized first letter perhaps? ScratchMarshall (talk) 03:29, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Template still produces an empty paragraph

This has already been brought up and seemingly addressed in 2009, however, the template still produces an extra empty paragraph (consisting of HTML <p><span></span></p>) in some articles. Examples: de Havilland Mosquito, ed (text editor), and uMkhuze Game Reserve. I suggest switching Template:Lowercase title to use a self-closed <nowiki /> tag: Special:Diff/772147368/986791242. This is the solution used in templates {{Dated maintenance category}}, {{User:MiszaBot/config}}, {{Taxobox}}, and others.
