Template talk:Israel populations
Dash
[edit]User:dawnseeker2000 used AWB in Israel article twice, which among other improvements changed parameter of this template from "Tel Aviv - Yafo" to "Tel Aviv – Yafo", so it's not working. I fixed it first time but then it happened again later (diffs: [1] [2]). User:Number 57, is it possible to add alias "Tel Aviv – Yafo" for the city to avoid this happen again? I guess just replacing "Tel Aviv - Yafo" with something else in this template is not an option because we don't know which articles on Wikipedia already use it to show Tel Aviv population. --Triggerhippie4 (talk) 08:00, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
User:Number 57, you forgot about this, and removed Tel Aviv alias. Is it possible to rename it to just "Tel Aviv"? --Triggerhippie4 (talk) 05:35, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Triggerhippie4: The issue with doing that is that the easiest way to update it every year is to use vlookup in Excel, which won't work if the city is renamed in the template. I did indeed forget about the AWB issue though so I'll add it back in as a separate row. Number 57 08:57, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
2016 update
[edit]@Ynhockey: Thanks for the update (but remember not to change the spelling of the placenames, otherwise it stops working on the articles – it has to match exactly, even the capitalisation!). Do you know what has happened to Neve Avot? Its population is no longer listed and it doesn't seem to have been renamed (I've compared the Hebrew list to the English one and there are the same number of places with Neve Avot removed). Also any idea where the 2015 populations are now (I might use that for the article in the meantime). Cheers, Number 57 11:05, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
- I didn't know the place names were changed from the original CBS transliteration. Will keep that in mind next time.
- Neve Avot: I think it's officially part of Pardes Hana. The locality file lists it as a locality of type 510 – "place", i.e. not a town or village. This and other places in the file don't have listed populations.
- The 2015 populations are still here: http://www.cbs.gov.il/ishuvim/ishuv2015/bycode.xls

- @Ynhockey: Perhaps also worth mentioning (so you don't do it again next time), I realised today that you'd somehow mismatched loads of places (which I've corrected in these edits). Not sure what happened? Number 57 14:29, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
- Wow, didn't realize I screwed up that badly. I actually saw such problems in the data I filtered, and fixed the ones I noticed, making sure I didn't miss anything. Guess it's harder to see such a shift across part of the data. Apologies again for breaking so much, and thanks for fixing. —Ynhockey (Talk) 20:19, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
- No problem :) Number 57 20:33, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

2017 update
[edit]@Ynhockey: Thanks for the doing the update. Any idea what's happened to Mulada? Cheers, Number 57 11:40, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Number 57: No idea, it disappeared without a trace from the register. I assume that the population is listed as part of another Bedouin locality, but can't tell which. —Ynhockey (Talk) 12:02, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
2020 figures
[edit]To editor Ynhockey: To editor Number 57: It looks like the 2020 figures are available but I'm likely to screw it up. Can one of you do it, please? Zerotalk 13:58, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Sure, will sort it out in the next day or two. Cheers, Number 57 16:01, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
Update, please
[edit]The template wasn't updated long enough. Triggerhippie4 (talk) 11:56, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
Wow. I just noticed that the previous request for update was exactly one year before. What a coincidence. @Number 57: are you still interested in maintaining this template? I don't know how to do it, and it's fully protected. --Triggerhippie4 (talk) 01:49, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, will updated in a couple of days. Please ping me if I haven't done it, as am a bit busy at work atm. Cheers, Number 57 12:26, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Number 57: Thank you for update, but the numbers are now appearing without commas, for example in {{Largest cities of Israel}} Triggerhippie4 (talk) 22:59, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- Fixed. Number 57 23:01, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- Is 2021 still the most recent data? How often the Israeli government update these stats? Irtapil (talk) 04:23, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

weird spelling for Sderot
[edit]This template seems to use a weird spring for Sderot, it only works if you add an E to get "Sederot"? I also mentioned this on the talk page for Sderot. I gave a bit more detail there. Irtapil (talk) 04:23, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
2022 update
[edit]Hi Number 57. It looks like 2022 numbers may now be available. Time for an update? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 16:39, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Firefangledfeathers: Thanks for the heads up – will sort it later. Cheers, Number 57 16:41, 20 March 2024 (UTC)

- @DeeTsameret and Firefangledfeathers: As far as I can see, the full population dataset for 2022 has not been released yet. If you go to this page and select the population option from the dropdown, the latest data is from 2021. The data in the table on the Rehovot article appears to have been added without a source (the source listed is from several years ago and only available on the Wayback machine). Cheers, Number 57 18:28, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Firefangledfeathers and @Number 57 - Well this is really strange.
- Because when I click the link above to the Central Bureau of Statistics (ISRAEL), I see the datset for 2022:
- Locality Code - 8400
- Locality name - REHOVOT
- District - Central District
- Sub-district - Rehovot
- Type of locality - Jewish Localities 100000-199999 residents
- Municipal status - Municipalities
- Natural region - Rehovot Region
- Total population- 150,748
- I am new here, and see that both of you are much more experienced than I am, can you explain how we can be seeing different information there? I would send you a screen print - but then I get a message that I must check that I have a copyright to be allowed to do this. I just thought it would be nice to update with the latest information available from the Central Bureau of Statistics in Israel. DeeTsameret (talk) 10:25, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ah ok – the first page of the localities list is misleading as there are no populations, but if you scroll through, they start to appear (but why they don't appear if you specifically select populations I don't know).
- I have updated the numbers. Some things to note:
- Etz Efraim and Malkishua have disappeared from the list of localities
- There was no report for Giv'at Shemesh
- There are some new localities – Metal (I assume Meital) and Trump Heights
- Sha'are Tikva has disappeared from the reporting and possibly replaced by Sha'ar Shomron
- Cheers, Number 57 11:35, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks DeeTsameret (talk) 11:44, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
