Template purpose
[edit]This is a RLWC infobox template, created to deal solely with RLWC articles, linked solely to RLWC articles, using only RLWC terminology. It is based upon, but has no links to rugby union, nor rugby league tours. Any such links are out of scope for the template, and should be removed from the template as this does not cover tours.Fleets (talk) 18:56, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- No, this is a rugby league tour template that is used at 1908–09 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain and 1911–12 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain. You seem dead set on using this on Rugby League World Cup squad pages, but this is a violation of MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE. Do not make any further changes until this discussion has run its course. – PeeJay 19:01, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- No I used the formatting and adjusted it in several key areas so that it worked for the purpose. If you can't see that, please do review. It is not the same as Kangaroo tours. I'm happy to leave it at Template:Infobox RLWC to allow you time to review.Fleets (talk) 19:04, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- I see the changes you made, but you're clearly operating on the assumption that I think this is a rugby union template. I'm not a fucking idiot, I know this is a rugby league template, but we need an infobox for rugby league tours, and you're removing that functionality from this template. We already have a template for Rugby League World Cups, it's at {{Infobox rugby league international tournament}} and it's already in use on all the Rugby League World Cup pages. This template you've created has no use whatsoever, since its use on Rugby League World Cup squad pages is precluded by MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE. You're being completely intransigent about this, and you need to have a long period of self-reflection before making any more changes. Get your blinkers off and stop assuming other people are making edits just to annoy you. Now please return the articles to the state they were in before you steamed in. – PeeJay 19:08, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- No shared purpose with the Template:Infobox rugby league international tournament.Fleets (talk) 19:21, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- Exactly. So why are you presenting this template's title as though it's supposed to be used on RLWC pages? It's not, and you have no valid reason to present it as such. Right now, the template is being used on those Kangaroo tour articles, but your changes are making it unfit for purpose. Stop being disruptive. – PeeJay 19:25, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- I've not written that you are "a fucking idiot". This template was set up, it is only being used for the creators intention, anything beyond that is not what it was intended to do.Fleets (talk) 19:27, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- And I'm telling you that your intention is contrary to MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE, which you obviously haven't read. The infobox you created should not be used on RLWC squad pages. Unless you can come up with a good reason for adding an infobox, which you can't, you need to stop adding it or your disruptive editing will result in you being blocked. – PeeJay 19:30, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- Tours do not link here, and prove that it violates MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE, not the other way around, because as before I saw tick, ticks, ticks.Fleets (talk) 19:32, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- The infobox violates MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE because it includes information that is not included in the article as a whole. The teams' win-loss records are not appropriate for inclusion on a page that lists the squads. Same goes for the top point-scorers and try-scorers. The rest of the information in the infobox does not need to be summarised by an infobox. Such a template does not present the information in a very user-friendly way. The fact that you don't see that is laughable. – PeeJay 19:37, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- Are they not merely top-level information, taking up less than half a page as an infobox. I would find a great many infoboxes scroll down significantly further and have much more in-depth information? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fleets (talk • contribs) 19:40, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, and that's a problem with those infoboxes too. But you have again failed to address why the RLWC squad pages need an infobox in the first place. – PeeJay 19:44, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- Please enlighten me as to why it doesn't. The deserving angle is wholly separate from the quality, or perceived lack of.Fleets (talk) 19:46, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- I already addressed the reasons why the squad pages shouldn't have an infobox. Please, please, please read my comments properly before responding to them. – PeeJay 19:48, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

- Thanks for the ping User:PeeJay – looking back through the RLWC articles and the RLWC squad (men's and women's) articles and navigating between them on both a desktop environment and mobile environment, I could see some limited utility in being able to quickly jump to the next tournament via a brief infobox (more so on mobile – something akin to 2019 Rugby World Cup squads), but that utility feels like the only benefit in having an infobox on the squad articles. I agree that MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE would apply here and that the tournament statistic information is presented more appropriately in the main tournament articles.
