Life expectancy B10,B50 (04/2017)
[edit]Probably B10 and B50 Life Expectancy could be added to the template. http://www.dieselhub.com/tech/b10-b50-life.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.169.117.125 (talk) 12:54, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
Proposal: Common Application field (04/2017)
[edit]Common Application: School buses / medium-duty trucks. I dont know how to do it :-( — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.169.117.125 (talk) 03:22, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
Thoughts . . . (2007)
[edit]Not wishing to screw things up, I just note that:
although block and head suffice for the majority of contemporary auto engines, for engines such as the Corvair, Porsche (I assume), and Volkswagen, there are separate crankcase and cylinder rather than a single block; and for some engines there was monobloc (cylinders and head cast as one piece, separate crankcase) construction. I suggest that the template have these added, so as to read
| block =
| head =
| crankcase =
| cylinder barrels =
| monobloc =
Also, looks like it could use some added specs to cover Wankels, e.g. rotor materials, housing materials, rotor thickness (instead of bore and storke), etc. Gzuckier 16:02, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Designer?
[edit]Can I suggest we add 'Designer' to the template? This is of relevance to a discussion on the Rover V8 and General Motors Buick 215 at the moment, and will be a valuable field for many of the more significant engine designs of the 20th century.Mja58 (talk) 12:17, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
Suggestion for rename
[edit]I suggest that this template shall be renamed Template:Reciprocating engine.
Reason: This template is also applicable for marine and aerospace installations (potentially with a couple of extra parameters). --Gwafton (talk) 09:30, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

Bore spacing
[edit]I would find a "bore spacing" field very useful. Anyone else have an opinion? Thanks, Mr.choppers | ✎ 02:18, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
I agree. Rps (talk) 12:17, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
So you know how much you can "bore out" the engine? Eddaido (talk) 08:32, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
- Yes! And I am still waiting. Bore pitch. Mr.choppers | ✎ 02:49, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
- Such Patience! Why not mention it on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Automobiles? Regards, Eddaido (talk) 14:18, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Proposal: Changes to label names and new field(s)
[edit]Some changes to the Template would improve it.
Generic introduction over, I propose the following changes:
- Change the label name from Exhaust to Emissions to better reflect what that section is about
- Change the label name from Combustion chamber to Layout or something else that is more suitable
- Move the Chronology section to bottom of the Template to have a similar layout as Template:Infobox automobile
- Move RPM range one section down and Combustion one section up (aka swap places) so that RPM range is above Output
- Remove the linking from RPM range. As it currently is, it feels very out of place
- Add a new field for Valves per cylinder that is linked to Multi-valve. This will give more basic information to a reader at a glance
- Change the order of the fields in the (newly renamed) Layout section to this: Configuration / Valvetrain / Valves per cylinder / Displacement / Cylinder bore / Piston stroke / Compression ratio / Cylinder block alloy / Cylinder head alloy
- Find a better name for the 'catch all' section that is Combustion
- Change the order of the fileds in Combustion
Ideas, criticism, comments? See a horrible first mock-up ->here<- or take a look at the page history if page is wiped. 2A04:4540:110A:1501:5834:95F3:19FD:BE80 (talk) 20:28, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
Operating principle?
[edit]Currently, the infobox does not have an operating principle field. I suppose the operating principle the most distinctive design feature of any combustion engine and I seriously wonder why it has not been added yet. --Johannes Maximilian (talk) 14:48, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
Turbo boost pressure
[edit]The "turboboostpressure" field is there, but not usable. Can someone fix it? 101.128.126.147 (talk) 03:07, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Related
[edit]Can we add a "related" field? Apologies if this has already been discussed. Mr.choppers | ✎ 01:15, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
