Proposal to rename to something more specific like "Tamil name"

[edit]

It seems like this template only applies to cultures where last names are patronymics (based on the fathers' name). I know that Tamil names follow this pattern. I'm unsure if other South Indian cultures do so as well; I know that Telugu names don't. In light of this, it would make more sense to call this "Tamil name". Given the relevance of this template the names of the Tamil diaspora in Malaysia, Singapore, and elsewhere, it makes sense to situate the template's name in culture, not the nationality. I'm going to rename this to Indian patronymic. "Tamil name" doesn't make sense because many Tamil people don't have patronymics, and patronymics also exist in other areas of India, like in Karanataka, for example.
I have completed the move. Prad Nelluru (talk) 17:32, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
