External link
[edit]I'm curious as to why this template, which is designed to be used for external links, is being used for references, like at Ederson Moraes? Mattythewhite (talk) 23:44, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
- Because it is used as reference, just like other templates, such as {{Soccerway}} (hence the
|access-date=
). SLBedit (talk) 23:52, 19 September 2018 (UTC)- I'm asking *why* it is being used as a reference. It is designed to be an external link, as I have already stated. The Soccerway template is also incorrectly being used as a reference. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:57, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
- Why is that? How are people supposed to check if statistics are correct (sourced) when the source (external link) is placed way down in the external links section? SLBedit (talk) 00:02, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- You're misunderstanding me. I'm asking why this template is being used as the *format* for references that cite this website. It does not use the correct layout for a reference, as it is designed for a different use, that being as an external link. See Template:Cite web for how a reference should be formatted. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:06, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- I understand what you're saying. When I created this template, I copied Soccerway's. Don't
|name=
and|access-date=
suffice to qualify it as a reference? The websites FDJ and SW do not provide much more information. SLBedit (talk) 00:13, 20 September 2018 (UTC)- When using Soccerway as a reference, we should use Soccerway as the
|website=
and Perform Group as the|publisher=
. That is not what we get when using the external link template. Although it may possible to set the template up that way, like with Template:Hugman, although I don't know how to go about it. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:22, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Language parameter is needed
[edit]I cannot rescue a source because there is no "language=1" parameter. The archived source is only available in the Portuguese version of the website. SLBedit (talk) 16:36, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
