Move some topics to new template
[edit]Hi all, I am considering moving some of the histopathology findings to a new template, Template:Histopathology findings. Then, this template can be repopulated on actual medical signs and symptoms (currently most are not actual "signs" insofar as they can't be detected don clinical examination). The new template could contain some content from Pathology that doesn't need to be on the overall broad topic template. Thoughts? Ping to Spicy who might have an opinion here. --Tom (LT) (talk) 08:18, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
- Tom (LT) pulling the things that aren't signs out of the template seems like a good idea - although I worry that a template for "histopathology findings" in general would end up being way too big. Spicy (talk) 06:50, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Spicy: hmm that is a tricky one. The real problem we are facing is - what to do with investigation findings that aren't diagnosis? We have three main navbox sets: signs + symptoms, tests + procedures, and diseases; investigation findings such as histopathology (and also radiological signs and blood test results like transaminitis, now I think about it) is inappropriate for all those. The two options if we did move would be:
- create a template set for test results - some already exist such as Template:Abnormal clinical and laboratory findings for blood
- create a broad histopathology template - eg Template:Histopathology findings by system
- Ultimately I am leaning towards a combination of the above. I think I'll split some things from pathology to Template:General histopathology findings (for necrosis etc.) as I think that's a particularly useful navigational aid, and create a set of templates like like Template:Cardiovascular test results, Template:Haematology test results, Template:Neurology test results that would put the results of investigations. That way I could include the (also currently difficult to place) radiology signs too. Any thoughts on this proposal and the naming of it? --Tom (LT) (talk) 08:47, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
- Done I have ended up performing the more targeted move of most test result related entries to Template:Infectious blood tests.--Tom (LT) (talk) 01:50, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
