Poor word "agreed" in first sentence
[edit]The first sentence of this user-talk template is:
"In response to your request for arbitration, the Arbitration Committee has agreed that arbitration is not required at this stage."
If I ask a group of people for something, then saying they "agree" suggests they support my request (agree with me). Here instead, it requires a closer reading to recognize that instead they are agreeing with each other to decline my request (disagreeing with me). Given it's for many cases where tensions might be high or editors might not be familiar with process, I think it would be best to make the first thing the editor sees as clear as possible.
Possible alternatives:
"In response to your request for arbitration, the Arbitration Committee has decided that arbitration is not required at this stage."
"In response to your request for arbitration, consensus of the Arbitration Committee is that arbitration is not required at this stage."
Obviously I'm open to any other alternatives that avoid contradictory meanings of a key word. DMacks (talk) 17:23, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
