Template:Alternative user → Template:Old account – “Alternative user” does not convey the purpose this template serves. Instead rename it to “Old account” or “Former account notice” or something similar because that is a more appropriate name. PorkchopG M X 19:24, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Another proposal We could merge Template:FormerAccount into this and provide {{Old account|altwording=yes}} which could display this on User:Example1’s userpage if User:Example2 (formerly User:Example1) wanted to use alternative wording:

This account was formerly used by Example2 (<— {{{1}}} goes here)..
It is not a sock puppet, but is an account to which the password has been lost, or which the user has abandoned. The user who legitimately owns this account has created a new account as Example2 (<— {{{1}}} goes here).
