Mainspace only?
[edit]As I understand it, this template is to be used on "content" pages only. So we cannot use this template on a category such as, let's say, Category:All orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files? -- Ϫ 12:15, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
How are categories for this template chosen?
[edit]So I saw @Ser Amantio di Nicolao: shifting all articles of "Category:American documentary films" over to "Category:American films" and I'm wondering how categories are chosen for this template.
For example I thought it would be a good idea to do this for Category:Music genres (which currently has "pages in this category should be moved to subcategories where applicable" on it) - e.g. copying over all articles of Category:Electronic music genres to Category:Music genres seems like the same thing as the example above...so how are these chosen / decided upon? --Fixuture (talk) 18:15, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
- This sort of thing, in my experience, is discussed at the WikiProject level. I know, for instance, that WikiProject Films has asked that all films in subcats be further categorized in the by-country categories. When this decision was arrived at, I do not know, but it was a while ago. WikiProject Opera has a similar rule regarding opera articles. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:56, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, that makes sense. Thanks. --Fixuture (talk) 19:10, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
- Any time - hope I've been of some help. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:37, 11 June 2015 (UTC)
- Certainly! And I'm really honored to speak with one of the core-contributors to Wikipedia. I'm having one more question though: how do you use Cat-a-lot for moving article-categories within Wikipedia? It seems as if it's only usable for Wikimedia Commons. I made a post about it here. --Fixuture (talk) 19:17, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
