Template:Writers of Wales/doc

This is a documentation subpage for Template:Writers of Wales.

Three parameters

required numeric ID from the URL for the writer at The Writers of Wales Database
required alphabetic ID from the same URL
optional display name or linkname that differs from the page name

Literature Wales evidently uses two ID for each writer in the database, one numeric and one alphabetic, which precede and follow /desc/ at the end of the writer's URL in the database.

Illustration

displays as

* Jenny Sullivan at the Writers of Wales Database, Literature Wales

and links to http://www.literaturewales.org/writers-of-wales/i/129816/desc/sullivan-jenny (note the two ID), the page for Jennifer Sullivan in The Writers of Wales Database, where she is Jenny rather than Jennifer.

Using only the two required parameters,

* {{Writers of Wales|129816|sullivan-jenny}}

displays as

* Writers of Wales/doc at the Writers of Wales Database, Literature Wales

and links to the same page—much less helpfully than the other when it is used on this page.
