Warren Hill, Dorset

[edit]
  • ... that removal of "doggers" has caused much of Warren Hill to slip away?

Created/expanded by Hillbillyholiday81 (talk). Self nominated at 20:53, 17 March 2013 (UTC).

First, all the good news:
  • Article - moved into mainspace on 17 March, so new enough; 2653 characters of readable prose, so long enough; neutral; at least one inline citation to every paragraph; un-assessed, so not a stub.
  • Hook - within length criteria at very concise 70 characters; I've slightly changed the format (bold for article name and removed '...' before ?; correctly cited/supported by ref #7 in final sentence of 'History' section; and certainly catchy.
  • No QPQ necessary; no image for DYK.
But there are a handful of phrases being picked up by duplication detector to be re-worded, please:
  • "warren hill itself has an extensive range of remains and features ranging in time from the late glacial of 11 000 years ago to romano british times" compared to "warren hill has an extensive range of remains and features ranging in time from the late glacial of 11 000 years ago to romano british times";
  • "clearly made it a site with qualities most attractive to prehistoric man" compared to "clearly a site with qualities most attractive to prehistoric man";
  • and "several barrow mounds which have been investigated in the past" compared with "several barrow mounds which have been investigated in the past"

Once these phrases can be changed, this will make a terrific first DYK for this editor. SagaciousPhil - Chat 14:13, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks kindly for your advice Phil, sagacious indeed! Hillbillyholiday talk 14:42, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
I've made the changes suggested. Hillbillyholiday talk 14:43, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

I re-jigged one phrase a fraction more (just belt and braces!) but this is now good to go. Thanks for responding so promptly and well done on coming up with such an attention grabbing hook! SagaciousPhil - Chat 14:54, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the help, "attention grabbing hook"? why, is there something funny about doggers? Hillbillyholiday talk 14:58, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Check out the link on Jheald's 'Saucy' above. If he's made that inference, I bet others will too! Of course, I'm too modest/naive to make those sort of connections! SagaciousPhil - Chat 15:04, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
Ha ha, I was being somewhat disingenuous there! So, do I have to do anything else now, or is that it? Hillbillyholiday talk 15:08, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
No, nothing for you to do now - that is unless someone else comes along and makes additional comments. You just need to wait until it gets moved up to a prep area, then into the queue. Of course, although it isn't necessary you could always review someone else's nomination as there is always a backlog! SagaciousPhil - Chat 15:14, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Still seeing issues with close paraphrasing here: compare for example "Warren Hill has an extensive range of remains and features dating from the late glacial of 11,000 years ago to Romano-British times - its height relative to the surrounding area and wide variety of habitats made it a site with qualities most attractive to prehistoric man" with "Warren Hill has an extensive range of remains and features ranging in time from the late glacial of 11,000 years ago to Romano-British times and it was clearly a site with qualities most attractive to prehistoric man". Nikkimaria (talk) 00:31, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
I've adjusted the sentence in question, I'm normally very careful with transliterating, must have forgot been lazy on this occasion! Hillbillyholiday talk 00:42, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
How's this now?: Warren Hill has a variety of remains and features dating from around 10,000 BC until Roman times. The hill's commanding view of the surroundings, coupled with an array of varied habitats nearby, provide the area with qualities appealing to both prehistoric and modern man. Hillbillyholiday talk 01:05, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Much better now, thank you. Nikkimaria (talk) 15:17, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
