There was a specific connection between The Alter of Ger and the Lubavitcher Rebbe. Anyone have moer on this?--Reb Roovie 23:13, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal

[edit]

A Gerer vandal is reverting my edits which he/she is uncomfortable with (both here and in the main "Ger" page) and replacing it with propaganda that is inappropriate for Wikipedia. See "history" for some interesting facts.Ortho 04:05, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rabbi Yisrael instituted in the Ger sect - to this day - very strict guidelines for marital sexual relations. He also set up special councillors that would have a personal relationship with every hasid to enforce these guidelines. He faced sharp opposition on this issue from the other leading rabbis of the generation.

Hard Style

[edit]

He had a special closeness to survivors of the Nazi holocaust.

He loved outgoing and controversial people. He would seek out, encourage and welcome these people even if they were not "Gerer Hasadim".

He had no time for Wimps and Simpletons

He had an overriding concern which covered all his Hasadim (mostly teenage boys in his Yeshivas) including "Wimps and Simpletons"

That was "Kadusha vTahara". No sexual impropriety.

Take the case of a shy and introverted young lad in one of his Yeshivas.

The Bais Yesroel would assign him a “commandant” a “personal guide”, who would only be a few years his senior . He would counsel , or rather befriend the young lad in order to find out the young mans sexual history. The “commandant” would report to the Rabbi and would report back instructions to our shy young lad.

NOTHING was done to improve and boost the young lads self confidence or to help him make friends and make him GROW.

ALL that mattered was Kadusha vTahara apart for that, the boy could die. And nobody would care. The Bais Yisroel DIDN’T care as long as he had his Kadusha vTahara..

I know of one such case were a young boy in one of his Yeshivas attempted a suicide and survived, only by the grace of Hasham.

The Bais Yesroel may have been Holy but he had NO IDEA on how to educate his young men. The trouble was that he gave positions of power in his Yeshivas to “his” people who also had no idea about education. With disastrous effects.

Thank God that there were a few good Educators about. Like Reb Godel Eizner. But he was a minority and people like him were not encouraged.

People loved his dynamic leadership style but it was hard and brutal, and their hearts aced for a warm and caring father. This they had with his successor The Lev Simcha. A Warm and truly caring Rabbe.

Pity that his subject is taboo as many people suffered under the Bais Yisroel leadership. —Preceding unsigned comment added by EirenAY (talkcontribs) 12:00, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
