Requested move 20 November 2016

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move to Im Si-wan, per the majority of editors. The one objection appears to stem from IMDB and a fansite, both of which are generally considered not reliable. (non-admin closure) Bradv 04:33, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yim Si-wanIm Si-wan – The literal Hangul translation from the Korean character is Im. At the top of the page, there is even a note that says "the family name is Im". Moreover, I think he is popularly known as "Im Si-wan". A couple of Korean newspapers that indicate his name as Im Si-wan are Chosun and Korea Herald. I see some inconsistency with the article naming of Korean celebrities with the Im last name, so just want to start this discussion. I suggest we should move it to Im Si-wan. Thanks. Yimsiwan.com is just one fansite though. There might be a couple of variations to his name spelling, but I think Im Si-wan is still the more popularly known one. When we google up the keyword "Yim Siwan", we see that most links mention his name as Im Siwan, and obviously if we google up "Im Siwan", tons of things come up.--TerryAlex (talk) 13:06, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There is a specific naming convention, which overrules the common name criterion in any case. Andrewa (talk) 02:48, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hangul support comment: I have a good amount of knowledge in Hangul so I thought I would add that the Im surname is mostly read as Lim with the much rarer addition of Yim and Rim. It is usually hard to tell which pronunciation of 임 is used without real confirmation from the person themself or someone who knows them. I recommend the family name be set to Im as that is the literal way of reading it, at least until you have any sort of confirmation. Abdotorg (talk) 22:38, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, just the sort of input I was after. Andrewa (talk) 02:48, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Im Si-wan → Yim Si-wan - He is using 'Yim' as his surname. (evidence:Airline ticket) --Lawinc82 (talk) 16:47, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
