Abbreviation
[edit]@Aceplum1: Please do not edit-war and discuss here why you believe your edit should be added. Thanks. InfiniteNexus (talk) 19:08, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- I’m learning how to reply. Sorry that I edited your post to me. I didn’t know I did that.
- here is my response.
- Well it’s a truthful statement. And it benefits those searching for the TRUE reason the abbreviation ‘yt’ is used. I’ve had people use this link in Wiki to justify the term is racist. When it’s definitely not. Quite the opposite. Aceplum1 (talk) 19:24, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Aceplum1: As I wrote in this edit summary, WP:DABMENTION dictates that all entries on disambiguation pages must have a link to an article where the term is mentioned. The article which you linked to, abbreviation, does not mention the term "yt", so it fails WP:DABMENTION. Additionally, the Wiktionary entry for "yt" already states "yt" is African-American slang for "white people", and that link is already at the top right of this page. Per WP:DABDIC, dictionary definitions are not to be listed on Wikipedia disambiguation pages. Come to think of it, that entire "Words and slang" section needs to be removed. InfiniteNexus (talk) 20:42, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- Wiktionary can be edited to add another definition as well. Everyone uses the acronym’yt’ on Tiktok, FB and IG that I’ve seen. And all poc, including white people, use it to refer to white people in a non derogatory or racist way. I added an acronym link which states yt is another acronym for ‘white’. Non derogatory.
- It seems you are being confrontational and not helpful to make this page an informed one. If you are the originator of the ‘yt’ page, your suggestion to remove ‘Words and Slang’ would be a good decision. Then people wouldn’t try and use it as a credible source for a racist term.As I’ve explained to you already why my addition explains why yt is used in Social Media but not used as a derogatory term. Aceplum1 (talk) 21:13, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Aceplum1: I'm not sure what you mean by
It seems you are being confrontational and not helpful to make this page an informed one.
, I have been very civil and calm despite your initial failure to explain your edits. I've linked you to several guidelines which Wikipedia articles must follow, if you agree with my assessment, you can go ahead and remove theWords and slang
section per WP:DABDIC. As for Wiktionary, I don't edit there often, and I can't control what it says over there. If you desire, you can start another discussion over there. InfiniteNexus (talk) 21:29, 1 October 2022 (UTC) - I just noticed the external link you added. Unfortunately, that's not going to cut it either, we need a link to an actual Wikipedia articles which discusses "yt" in this context. Again, removing the section outright appears to be the best way to resolve this. InfiniteNexus (talk) 21:31, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- I already explained why I didn’t respond right away. Learning about how this site works with user rights. Disputes, etc. replying and talking with fellow editors.
- Please Remember that you initially deleted my addition with no explanation. An explanation didn’t come until I tried to reinstate my addition back twice after being continually deleted by you.
- According to Wikipedia my link is enough. Shows that the word ‘yt’ is an acronym for white.
- You are confrontational and threatening with me being blocked for behavior I’m not even doing, so like I said before, I definitely agree that since you feel the need to get rid of the words and slang section, please do. I will not remove sections of a page that I’m not the originator. But you can since you’ve suggested it. Twice now.
- I definitely like being a part of the Wikipedia family. Aceplum1 (talk) 21:45, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Aceplum1: Several things. First, I understand you are new here, and I wasn't trying to make you feel unwelcome. When I first reverted your edit, I explained why it does not comply with Wikipedia's guidelines. Your response was to reinstate your edit without filing in the edit summary, so I made a post on your user talk page to let you know you should start a discussion here. You proceeded to reinstate your edit without an explanation again, which made me wonder whether you were acting disruptively. I know now this is not the case and you had no malicious intent. I never threatened you with a block, I merely explained to you that genuinely disruptive editors may be blocked. You are not one of them, so you don't need to worry.
- Anyone can edit Wikipedia. I don't have to be the one to remove sections on articles, and you don't need special user rights to reply on talk pages. I apologize if you felt I was being unfriendly, that was not my intent, but I'll go ahead and remove the section per what we discussed above. InfiniteNexus (talk) 22:12, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

YT → YT (disambiguation) – The Website is the primary topic. Redirect this to the website's page per MOS. ErceÇamurOfficial (talk) 17:02, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose move. Assuming you mean YouTube... it isn't the primary topic, as it's very rarely referred to as "YT". O.N.R. (talk) 18:42, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. I could see where it could make sense to put a note at the top of the disambiguation page that it most commonly refers to YouTube, but it is absolutely not ubiquitous enough to justify moving the entire disambiguation page and giving "YT" its own redirect. fuzzy510 (talk) 19:17, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose no. Speedy close. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:24, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support – The website is the primary topic, and there's no question about that. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:01, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose - or else JB is gonna get redirected to Joe Biden Red Slash 06:17, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. The dab page got about 7,500 views last February, and less than 100 of these resulted in a clickthrough for Youtube [1]. – Uanfala (talk) 14:45, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. Not a common name for YouTube. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:18, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose per Necrothesp ... not a common name for YouTube, regardless of page views. Steel1943 (talk) 17:13, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
