acroski?
[edit]even though its not a competitive sport anymore, shouldn't acroski and other sports like it (fallen out of pratice) be inculded? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.77.10.72 (talk) 08:19, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Sports no longer in competition
[edit]Sports that are no longer completed professionally or amatuerly.
Skeet skating?
[edit]Can anyone find a valid reference to show that there is such a winter sport as Skeet skating? The only refs I can find are to skateboarding or likely copied their info from wikipedia. Meters (talk) 19:58, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Move to Winter sports. Consensus supports SMcCandlish's counterproposal. (non-admin closure) В²C ☎ 19:49, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
Winter sport → List of winter sports – This is clearly a list-class article, and the title should reflect this reality, and for WP:CONSISTENCY with similar articles such as List of water sports. - Oppose. This is more than a list of sports. That one section could be split out to List of winter sports, but I don't think that's necessary. Station1 (talk) 22:47, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support Per nom. List of surface water sports also is similar example. Dawid2009 (talk) 17:31, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose on the same grounds as User:Iffy. While the non-list content is not huge, it should be much better developed, and this is how we should be going with all such articles. See for example Cue sports, which has much more historical background and contains but isn't entirely a list of such sports. List of water sports (to which Water sports and Water sport presently redirect) isn't a model to follow, but a defective encyclopedia article which is devoid of key history and other background material. Finally, this article should actually be moved to Winter sports because it is about multiple unrelated sports, for WP:CONSISTENCY with Cue sports and other articles on general classes of sports. The principally British and Commonwealth English usage of "sport" as a plural or mass noun only applies (even in those dialects) to sporting as a general concept and to closely related sports (e.g. Rugby union and Rugby league), not to gross assemblages of distinct sports. (There was a thread at another page about this semi-recently, maybe in Nov. or Dec., but I'm having trouble locating it; various evidence showed that British style is quite mixed, but leans towards "sports" in such contexts, but "sport" in more abstract senses, e.g. "sport is an important part of the broadcasting industry", etc.). Terms like "cue sports", "winter sports", and "water sports" are natural WP:SINGULAR exceptions, and having them at singular titles wrongly implies there's a single concept of, say, winter sport from which all instances of winter sports descend, which simply isn't true. (It's almost true of cue sports, except there's evidence that cued tabletop games of Asia, like some forms of carrom, have no connection to European billiards-family games at all.) — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 16:08, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- I would also support a move to Winter sports, based on the above. While I was aware of WP:ENGVAR differences re sports/sport, I was not aware of those nuances. Station1 (talk) 20:42, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- I also support moving to the plural form Winter sports. Rreagan007 (talk) 21:18, 13 February 2019 (UTC)
- Why List of water sports have to be still "List of Water Sport" but not "Water sports" meanwhile "Winter sport" have to be "Winter sports" but not "List of wintere sports"? I think both names should be the same. Two lists/two plural names/ winter sport and water sport. What do you think? Dawid2009 (talk) 19:29, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
- I also support moving to the plural form Winter sports. Rreagan007 (talk) 21:18, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

Thank You.
[edit]Thank you for these prodigious and extensive pages. They really helped me with my writing as I couldn't find how to keyboard out my true sentiments about winter and how it isn't all about the Christmas cheer by learning about the distinctive sports that are played in the winter season and also helped me when I was trying to persuade others to remember that Christmas isn't everything and ways to make your winter more worth it and pleasurable than just a joy that accumulates inside you until it finally pops on Christmas day when you get to put a luminous star on a fake,silvery-green colored Christmas tree and eat tongue-burning, squishy and star-shaped gingerbread cookies as well as palatable, gummed candies and this helped me with that and I really hope that this also helped others with their writing too. So I must say It once more. Thank you for this stupendous page full of captivating words that gave me reason to keep going and made me envision all the enjoyable times I had playing ice hockey and curling in the past that I think about everyday of my mediocre life. 76.121.70.114 (talk) 02:38, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
