Basketball?

[edit]

The second sentence under "Content" reads:

"It considers statistics for baseball and basketball players, in the context of their team and in a sabermetric way, and assigns a single number to each player for his contributions for the year."

This is incorrect — the metric developed by James, as explained in the subject book, deals exclusively with the sport of baseball. The later reference, under the "Basketball" heading ("Win shares has also been applied sabermetrically to basketball players.") is correct, although that work has been done by others and isn't contained in this book.

I plan to delete "and basketball" from the first sentence quoted above, unless there's some objection. Strongpoint (talk) 04:00, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is a real concept in basketball (see mention w.r.t. Kareem), it's just not related to James' book. I owner if Win Shares should be a dab page for 1) the book, 2) the different flavors in baseball, 3) other sports like basketball—Bagumba (talk) 05:42, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
