MagicPiano, could you add a source citation for your interesting addition about his opinion of General Gates, and Smallwood not wanting to serve under a foreign officer, etc. [I'm not normall a "discussion page" user, so I'm not sure how to write a note you will see] Thanks in advance. Smallwood family in Maryland

[edit]

The statement that the Smallwood's of Maryland were almost extinct was written in a book dated 1900. There were still plenty of Smallwood's living in Maryland at the time of 1900 and there still are today, 2011. Colonel James Smallwood (1639-1714), great-grandfather of General William Smallwood who immigrated from England, had eleven children. This is from the US and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900. If you read the book "Smallwood & Carter connections to family histories and royalty", written 2002, there are numerous documentations of Smallwood's still born and living in Maryland. -- Lady Meg (talk) 00:04, 8 January 2011 (UTC) Col James Smallwood is Gen William Smallwood's great-grandfather not grandfather. Pryor Smallwood (1680-1734) is Bayne's father and William's grandfather — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.160.78.171 (talk) 00:15, 7 August 2014 (UTC) Looks like I said “great-grandfather”. Not sure what the problem is. Lady Meg (talk) 05:51, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Birthdate of Priscilla Heaberd Smallwood

[edit]

There seems to be a mistake in the birthdate of Priscilla Heaberd Smallwood. If she had been born in 1730, she would have only been two when she bore William.

Yes, according to rootsweb, she was born around 1715. Another site (geni.com) gives an "estimated" birthdate of between 1713 and 1731 - obviously the former is far more likely than the latter. If I can find something more definite, I'll make an update. Mahousu (talk) 15:46, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We’re using unsourced rootsweb and Geni? Unless something is confirmed, take the date out. It’s better to have NO date than an incorrect one. Lady Meg (talk) 05:54, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
