His father was his son? I wonder.

That were different persons. William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke (1423-1469) is not William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke (1506-1570) Greetings Phoe 18:20, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The location of this page is discussed at some length at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Peerage#Earl_of_Pembroke. I propose, on the basis of that discussion, to cbange the disambiguator to 1551 creation. Having article titles that need an m-dash is a bad thing, and this seems the best solution. Speak now or go to WP:RM. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 22:55, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wiltshire

[edit]

The Complete Peerage cites him as Lord Lieutenant, Wilts, from 1551. Gibbs' source is Lords lieutenants in the sixteenth century; a study in Tudor local administration, by Gladys Scott Thomson, p.48, note, if someone would like to look further. Since these are later and more reliable sources, I suspect he did get that LL under Edward VI, with the title, and the assertion that they are both 1559 is a misprint.
